Howdy!

Biggest news around the lake, the crappie are biting and not just in the north end but all over the lake! The size is actually the biggest news because most of the fish are well over 10 inches and many are 13 inches plus! Biting patterns vary from jigging 15 feet over brush to casting over brush in five to 6 feet of water. The common denominator is brush meaning wood structure such as old trees, stumps or brush piles. Tube jigs are working well and I'm sure minnows are working too. Jim and I caught 4 this past Friday. The biggest was 13.5 inches and the smallest was 12.75 inches.

The weather this weekend was mostly colder than normal and Saturday mostly wet. Jim was out with his 2 buddies Dick and Dick on Saturday and Sunday. They dodged the rain, fished in the cold and kept 12 crappie. The biggest once again was 13.5 inches and the smallest was 10 inches. They released a few others that were under 10 inches. And caught some bass.

This past Tuesday Jim took his neighbor Quinton fishing and they fished from 3:00PM to 6:00PM. They boated 8 crappie none under 10 inches and 2 over 14 inches. They tossed the 14 inchers back and kept the rest. Quinton landed a 19 inch bass as well and caught 3 other bass which appeared to be rising on shad!!! Not bad for a 3 hour tour.

Bass fishing has been great. Jigs, worms and spinner-baits seem to be the favorite lure. Shoreline, flats and drop-offs all seem to be working well. Weeds or wood, makes no difference. And when you can, fish parallel to the shore.

For up-to-date water conditions go to the UBO front page.

I have a brand new single slip dock ready to launch. It has 20 inch thick floats and can have a roof or boat lift added to it at any time. The slip is 24 foot long and the decking is over 4 feet wide! It has never been in the water. It is brand spanking new. So if you need a new dock or it's just not there, call or email me.

Howdy,

The cold weather left and warmer weather is here. The lake is warming and the bass are biting. A tournament this pass weekend was won with over 20 pounds of bass! LOE has done better, regardless that's pretty good! See the UBetcha Outdoors home page for current water conditions.

My grandson Daniel was in this weekend and we went fishing in my good neighbor Greg's boat. Daniel caught 3 bluegill and one large turtle. Greg caught as many bluegill and one small bass. On Sunday we went to another good friend's house Tim & Nancy for a fabulous BBQ chicken dinner. While we were there Daniel fished from the shore and caught 4 more bluegill. Other accomplishments for Daniel are:
Petted and fed a horse
Saw 2 deer
Watched 18 wild turkeys
Cleaned the dog kennels
Fed the dogs
Swept the barn
Organized the wood pile
Sorted washers from machine nuts
Climbed trees
Dug holes
Hammered nails
Picked flowers for his Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma

We tried fishing for crappie and didn't catch any but Jim and Dick should be down this weekend. Their focus will be crappie so......

I have a brand new 24' single slip dock for sale!! Or if you need your dock repaired. Call me at 314-614-9290 or email me at mikeo@ubetchaoutdoors.com

Howdy!

Last week winter temperatures returned dropping the lake water temperature and delaying the mid-lake crappie bite. At the north end crappie continued to caught even though the numbers were significantly down. Bass on the other hand are just tearing the shoreline up all over the lake in search of minnows, shad, crawdads or anything to eat. Jim was out there with tube jigs and road runners searching for crappie and he couldn't keep bass off his line. He caught a lot of small ones but did land a 19 1/2 incher!

My buddy Steve Jr. reports the strip pits and ponds are doing much better than the main lakes. Over the weekend he landed several crappie and one measure 18 1/2 inches. Go to the UBO front page for a picture of Steve and his catch. It's a monster!! You'll find the current water conditions/temperature as well.

Dock repair and replacement is moving into high gear. I have a single slip dock with a 16 foot ramp and 24 foot long slip ready for delivery at the end of this month. So if you need your dock repaired or it is just not there. Call me at 314-614-9290 the number may not be local but I am!! Or email me at mikeo@ubetchaoutdoors.com

Howdy!

Fishing improved over the past five days due to the warming air and water temperatures. Crappie are most active in the north main channel and bass are very active all around the lake. Crappie are being caught on minnows, tube jigs and Road Runners fished 3 to 5 feet deep over the main channel points. Black and chartreuse, red and chartreuse seem to be working the best. Bass are biting on spinner baits fished in the shallows and up against the shoreline. The preferred color is chartreuse.

The water is fairly clear for this time of the year and I'm calling it cloudy to stained.

I've been busy fixing docks. So if you need your dock repaired or it's just not there!! Call or email me.
