I went fishing last evening with my neighbor Greg. Our focus was shad rises and catching the bass chasing them. The rises were few with long pauses in between. But we managed to boat 8 that measured 15 inches to 17 inches. We lost 2 as we were fighting them and Greg broke off once. We were fishing white or chartreuse and white Wild Eyes.

Greg's trolling motor wasn't strong enough to chase them down so we used his big motor to run down the rises. It was very exciting.

Oh, by the way my other neighbor reported catching 20 crappie on Wednesday. All were small but this may be the start of the Fall crappie season. He was dragging jigs in 8 to 10 feet of water and fishing main channel points.

For more info read yesterday's report.

Jim Writes:
Action was slowest Friday evening and Sunday morning, but pretty good on Saturday.

Bass on the rises Friday by the island, Saturday am in the ski area, again Sunday am, and Saturday evening in the general Spanish house area.

Wally also said he caught bass by the islands Saturday evening.

Probably none over the slot size, and both Paul and I practiced some long distance release, at which I seemed to excel all weekend. Paul won the cribbage by skunking me the second game. He had an amazing 4 4's and turned a 7 for a great hand. Plus a double double run that really buried me.

Hey Mike, Juiceman, my buddy Murph, and I have been hitting LOE pretty hard the past few weeks. First of all, we have been fishing plastic worms in about 12 feet of water, right on the edges of underwater weed beds. Use your depth finders to find right where the weed bed ends and bounce dark colored worms and small jigs off the bottom. Also, the shad rises have been a blast. Bass seem to be schooling really good right now, and in these shad rises, throw just about anything that mimics a shad directly into the bass breaking the water. I've been mostly using white flukes, and just watching for the giant boil in the water when the fish drills the lure. Sunday, Murph and I caught 27 fish in about 3 1/2 hours of fishing. Most fish were in the 15 to 17 inch range, but I did catch one fish that weighed about 6 lbs. They seem to school all day, but the really large schools tend to pop up around 6 p.m. Look for the big schools of baitfish on your sonar and the bass will pop up soon. Good luck!

Now I’ve been doing almost anything but fishing. The dock business has been good and now I’m finishing all the rest of my projects. Besides my bird dog just had 10 puppies and hunting season is about to begin. I’ll be out there with my grandson and son this weekend for a little bit and then dove hunting on Monday soooooo…..
