Jim, Dave and I did some crappie fishing this past weekend. It was terrible. The following is a report from an avid reader of the UBO reports. Thanks Paul for the contribution. Maybe we'll get more readers to do the same.

I agree with your crappie summary. We searched for them but couldn'tcoax them into biting. Tried tube jigs, minnows, and curly-tailedgrubs. Bass on the other hand, we're biting in the late afternoon to early evening. We caught them on jig/craw combos, black spinnerbaits,Rebel Wee Craw crankbaits, and jig/pig. Caught most of them in the creek arms in 6-8 feet of water. I nailed a 5 pound largemouth on ajig/craw. Best fishing was Sunday afternoon/evening. I haven'tdownloaded any photos yet, but I'll send you a copy tomorrow.

We caught channel cats from 10pm-2am off the main lake points onnightcrawlers dipped in Sony's Stink Bait.

Thanks again and .... Fish on!

Top water baits and bottom-bouncing worms seem to be working the best onbass. Nothing in between. Here’s a little secret, jerk baits are working thebest! Six inch shallow diving Rapalas, solid or jointed, in black and white are killing'em. Toss it next to weed beds with deep drop-offs. Give it a jerk, let it sit, jerk it again and swim it fast for a short distance, pause and then swim it the rest of the way. Jointed seems to work better than solid but both will catch fish. For the best results swim the lure parallel to the weed beds!

Crappies are biting in weed beds and cover seven feet deep on red/chartreuse or black/chartreuse tube jigs fished slow and dragging it through the weeds. Once again the weed beds should be next to drop-offs for the best results. Most of the fish are smaller than 10 inches so please keep only what you’re going to eat and let the others grow-up into a good spring catch!

Take caution out there! The lake is almost as low as it was 2 years ago. Points, flats and stumps that are 5 feet deep at normal pool are now 2 feet deep! Shallow enough to damage your lower unit or worse! Steer wide of points and stay in the center of the main channel.
